Connecting the tape library to SAN or directly to Appliance?

I need a solution

what is the best connections for Tapelibrary:connecting the tape library ports to SAN switch or connecting the port directly to the appliance Ports?

Specs:the appliance is 5220 media server role version 2.5 D model and I Have 6 FC empty ports.I connected one port for VMware and the others are not connected.

The tape library has four drives in the tape library this meaneach drive has one FC port . I have enough ports for all drives in the appliance .The customer asked me not to connect them directly ,He want to connect them to SAN then Zoning them with the appliance. I would like to clarify about the benefitsof  this connection than direct connections ?

When zoning all the Tape drives, are they will be visible to the appliance ?( here I connect the appliance to SAN switch using one FC port ).

Such connection will create 4 paths for writing or one path for all drives? The other thing if I decide to connect them directly to the apppliance this mean that I have to connect each port for each drive directly to 4 of the appliance FC ports,s this correct?

Kindly advice!!!
